Giorgio and Janna Romani, Pastor Ritzer Espinoza of Bethany Baptist Church
Giorgio and Janna Romani, along with their children, Vienna, Vincenzo, and Luca, have been missionaries serving in the city of Lima, Peru for the past 11 years. Giorgio and Janna met at Bible college in 2006. Shortly after their wedding, he began pastoring a church in Florida. In 2012, the Lord guided them to leave the USA and serve in a Spanish-speaking country. Their three kids were born on the field and have been a blessing to their lives and ministries. Giorgio pastored at Iglesia Bautista de Fe until early 2023. Their current ministry continues with an emphasis on theological education through conferences and modules in various parts of Peru and other South American countries in collaboration with MADEL, and also through teaching at Seminario Teológico Bautista de Lima.
Our team will be assisting one of the national pastors that MADEL works with, Pastor Ritzer Espinoza of Bethany Baptist Church in Iquitos. Pastor Ritzer shared the following with us: “Our church’s purpose in hosting this medical team is to serve our community and the surrounding areas, sharing in this way the gospel of Christ for the salvation of many souls.”

Trip Description
Peru is a diverse and vibrant country located in western South America, known for its rich history, varied geography, and strong cultural heritage. Once the heart of the Inca Empire, it is home to iconic sites like Machu Picchu as well as a blend of indigenous and Spanish colonial influences. The landscape ranges from the Amazon rainforest to the Andes mountains and arid coastal plains. Peru’s economy is bolstered by mining, agriculture, and tourism. The majority of the population identifies as Catholic—approximately 60–65% are Roman Catholic, while 15–20% are Evangelical Protestant, reflecting the country’s deep religious roots and growing diversity of faith.
Iquitos, Peru, is a unique city nestled deep in the Amazon Rainforest. It is the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road, accessible only by air or river. Located in northeastern Peru, Iquitos sits on the banks of the Amazon River and serves as a major port and gateway to the jungle.
With a population of around 500,000, Iquitos is a lively blend of indigenous, colonial, and modern influences. The city features colorful markets, historic architecture from the rubber boom era, and a strong cultural identity rooted in both Amazonian traditions and Catholicism. Due to its isolation and surrounding biodiversity, Iquitos plays a key role in ecotourism, research, and river trade.
Despite its beauty and energy, the city also faces significant challenges, including poverty, limited access to healthcare, and infrastructure needs.
