Host Information
Kshitiz Ghimire, Brenna Ghimire, Himani Ghimire, Ledger Ghimire, Kathmandu Bible Baptist
Kshitiz Ghimire and his family are newly approved missionaries to Nepal. His father, Jeevan Ghimire, has been pastoring Kathmandu Bible Baptist Church since 2002. The church also operates a children’s home that provides care for many orphans.
Pastor Ghimire shares: “My family heard the gospel through missionaries when I was young. By God’s grace, my father accepted Christ as his Savior and continued to teach our family about the gospel. As a young boy in the fourth grade, I understood my need for salvation, repented of my sins, and trusted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.”
The Nepali people are kind, friendly, and hospitable, known for their warm welcome to guests. They are hardworking and deeply loyal to their culture and country. While they enjoy community and conversation, the majority live in spiritual darkness. Access to primary medical care is limited, and dental or eye care is often considered a luxury.
Our team will have the opportunity to serve alongside Kathmandu Bible Baptist Church. In addition, we’ll partner with the Barkha Foundation, a local social service organization. As we help meet the physical needs of the people in Budhabare Village and care for the children in the orphanage, we will also have countless opportunities to address their spiritual needs by sharing the gospel with each patient we encounter.

Trip Description
Nepal is a geographically diverse country, home to fertile plains, forested hills, and eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains, including Mt. Everest at 29,032 feet. Just 100 miles from Everest, the elevation drops below 1,000 feet in the Terai region. Nepal spans about 500 miles in length and 120 miles in width—slightly larger than Arkansas—and is bordered by China’s Tibet Autonomous Region to the north and India to the south, east, and west. With a population of approximately 30 million, its terrain ranges from subtropical lowlands to Arctic-like highlands.
We will be serving in the Morang District in eastern Nepal, located in the Terai region. The Terai, a lowland area along the Himalayan foothills, features grasslands, savannah, forests, and clay-rich swamps. It covers 23% of Nepal’s land and lies at elevations between 220 and 984 feet.
Nepal was a monarchy under the Shah Dynasty for nearly 250 years and remained free from colonization. In 2008, it became a republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister appointed by parliament. Although the Buddha was born in Lumbini in 563 B.C., Hinduism has had the greatest influence on Nepali society. Nepal became a secular state in 2006, yet over 80% of the population remains Hindu, followed by 10% Buddhist, 4% Muslim, and 6% other faiths.
Traditional Nepali culture emphasizes family and arranged marriages, especially in rural areas. Multi-generational, patriarchal households are common, and the divorce rate is extremely low. Child marriages still occur frequently, with many girls marrying before age 18.
Nepal faces economic challenges: about 20% of its population lives below the poverty line, and over half of working-age adults are unemployed or underemployed. Many seek work abroad, often under exploitative and unsafe conditions.
Nepali cuisine features dishes like dal bhat (lentils and rice with spices) and momo (steamed dumplings with meat and vegetables). While many meals are vegetarian, meats like chicken, pork, mutton, and water buffalo are also used—except for beef, as cows are sacred in Nepal.
