Host Information
Miguel and Mariangela Sanabria
Miguel, Mariangela, and their son Felipe are church-planting missionaries in Colombia. Pastor Miguel moved to the United States when he was 12 years old and first heard the Gospel from a missionary in his uncle’s home. In 2011, he attended his first missions camp, hosted by Vision Baptist Church, where God worked in his heart. During that camp, Miguel realized the great need around the world and surrendered to God’s call to missions. He and his wife moved to Colombia in 2018 and have had the privilege of planting two churches: Iglesia Bautista Visión and Iglesia Bautista El Refugio. In addition to church planting, they also offer various ministries within their community, including English classes, financial seminars, Bible studies, and sports ministries.
There are around 2.5 million people in their city, offering ample outreach opportunities, especially through optical clinics, due to inadequate public healthcare. Pastor Miguel desires to see continued growth in the current church plants so that he can begin work on planting a new one. He says people are very open to hearing the Gospel and actively read the tracts they hand out during outreach.
So, brush up on your Spanish and get ready for delicious food and coffee as you join the Sanabria family in Medellín, Colombia.

Trip Description
Colombia is a beautiful country filled with friendly people. The landscape varies dramatically, with snow-capped mountains, beaches, jungles, and everything in between. Colombia is one of the world’s top exporters of coffee, bananas, cut flowers, gold, and emeralds. In fact, Colombia produces more emeralds than any other country and holds 70–90% of the global market. It ranks second in the world for flower exportation and third in coffee production.
The area that is now modern-day Colombia was originally inhabited by indigenous tribes such as the Muisca, Quimbaya, and Tairona. In 1499, the Spanish arrived and colonized the region, calling it New Granada. Today, Colombia still recognizes 102 different indigenous groups.
Since 1991, the Colombian constitution has guaranteed non-discriminatory freedom of religion to all faiths. While 90% of the population identifies as Roman Catholic, the remaining 10% includes Jews, Pentecostals, Presbyterians, Seventh-day Adventists, Evangelicals, Muslims, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, Baha’is, and even Taoists.
Sadly, for many decades, Colombia was plagued by violence from paramilitary groups and drug cartels. While occasional conflicts still occur, they are no longer the prevalent danger they once were, and the country is now generally considered quite safe.
This clinic will be in the city of Medellín. Medellín is located in the Aburrá Valley, part of the Andes Mountain range. It has a spring-like climate year-round, averaging about 72°F (22°C), earning it the nickname “The City of Eternal Spring.” The city is surrounded by lush mountains, offering stunning views and outdoor opportunities. This is the second largest city in Colombia and is considered one of the safest major cities in the Country.
