Moisés and Madelyn Escobar; Living Faith Baptist Church
If you loved serving in Santa Rita, we bet you’ll love working with the Escobar family in Roatán. Pastor Moisés and his wife Madelyn have served here for three years. Trained at New Life Baptist Seminary, he served as an assistant pastor then transitioned into the lead pastor role in 2025. They have seen many saved and baptized; many of these are now preparing to serve the Lord in a greater way. As a family, the Escobars have been taking the gospel where it is needed by those who do not yet know the Savior. The church is about 17 years old, located in the Flowers Bay neighborhood, and offers a variety of ministries, including a bilingual Christian school, Bible clubs, and VBS.
Unfortunately, here in Roatán, there is a lot of confusion surrounding the gospel, due to the presence of multiple churches filled with false teachings. Their desire is to reach Flowers Bay with the Gospel and share the hope of Jesus Christ.
The Escobar family shared the urgent need for medical care in their community. The public hospital burned down last year, and it’s nearly impossible for many to afford care in the private clinics. They said people with chronic health conditions often cannot afford their medications and must stop taking them. Help us show the love of Christ and serve the people of Roatán, Honduras, alongside Moisés and Madelyn Escobar.
Trip Description
Situated between El Salvador, Guatemala, and Belize, Honduras is the second-largest country in Central America—but also one of the least visited by tourists. Decades of gang violence, drug wars, and political corruption have caused many to avoid it. Honduras struggles with economic poverty, and in rural areas, healthcare is difficult to access. A third of the country’s economy comes from agriculture, with major exports including sugar, bananas, palm oil, and coffee.
Speaking of coffee, Honduras has perfected granitas de café, a cold, blended, sweetened coffee drink. It’s a great way to cool down and re-energize during a hot day. Another food to try is the baleada—a fresh flour tortilla filled with Honduras’s flavorful refried beans and crumbled queso duro (a hard, salty white cheese). You can add chicken, egg, avocado, or sour cream—but you may not want to mess with the delicious original!
